Introduction
Tobacco addiction is one of the leading preventable causes of death worldwide. Research has focused on nicotine’s neurobiological effects, cessation methods, and policy measures. This article examines five areas: neurobiology, nicotine replacement therapy, behavioral interventions, e-cigarettes, and public policy.
Key Research Areas
Nicotine Neurobiology
Nicotine binds to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, reinforcing dependence [1].
Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)
Patches, gums, and lozenges help reduce withdrawal symptoms [2].
Behavioral Approaches
Counseling and motivational interviewing improve quit rates [3].
E-Cigarettes
E-cigarettes are studied both as cessation aids and potential health risks [4].
Policy Measures
Taxation, warning labels, and smoking bans reduce prevalence [5].
