Abstract

Under-treatment of pain is poor medical practice that results in many adverse effects. Unrelieved pain after surgery increases heart rate, systemic vascular resistance, and circulating catecholamine’s, placing patients at risk of myocardial ischemia, stroke, bleeding, and other complications.
