Abstract

Correctional nursing is a specialized healthcare field that focuses on providing medical care to individuals incarcerated in jails, prisons, and other correctional facilities. Nurses in this field are tasked with managing a variety of health conditions, such as chronic diseases, infectious diseases, and mental health disorders, often within resourcelimited and high-stress environments. They play an essential role in safeguarding both the physical and psychological well-being of inmates by performing routine screenings, administering medications, managing diseases, and offering mental health support. To effectively address the complex health needs of incarcerated individuals, correctional nurses require advanced clinical expertise in both physical and psychiatric healthcare.
