Qiqihar University has a history of more than 50 years. It is the only provincial, comprehensive regular institution of higher learning in the western part of Heilongjiang Province. It is located beside Labor Lake in the city of Qiqihar, the famous homeland of red-crowned cranes. It is nicknamed 芒聙聹The Round Lake University,芒聙聺 and has been awarded titles of a 芒聙聹Garden University芒聙聺 and a 芒聙聹Provincial Model Unit芒聙聺 by the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the CPC and the People芒聙聶s Government of Heilongjiang Province. In recent years, Qiqihar University has successfully realized rapid development. Now, it consists of 22 colleges, including the college of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Computer and Control Engineering, Sciences, Humanities, Life Sciences and Engineering, Arts, Physical Education, Foreign Languages, Economics and Management, Light Industry and Textiles, Mechanical Engineering, Communication and Electronic Engineering, Education and Communication, and International Exchange. The university also has several teaching and auxiliary teaching departments: a Computer Center, a Network and Audio-visual Education Center, a Department of Social Sciences, Libraries, and the Gmeiner Vocational Technical School. Qiqihar University has a highly competitive faculty and a well-reasoned faculty structure. Among 1347 full-time teachers, with 26 foreign teachers being excluded, 72 hold doctoral degrees and 679 hold master芒聙聶s degrees. That is 55.7% of the faculty. Nineteen experts enjoy special national government allowances. Three are tutors of postgraduate candidates, 168 are tutors of graduate candidates, 167 are professors, and 442 are associate professors. These numbers account for 45.2% of the faculty. Of the teachers, 87.4% are under 45, and they are the mainstay of the faculty.
